CNS sees a big increase in requests for advanced security audits
Over the previous few years, Capital Network Solutions have provided an increasing range of IT security asessment and hardening services to companies across the UK.
"However this mainly related to organisations wishing to ensure that their external network was protected with a hardware Firewall device," commented Mark Edwards, Technical Director, CNS. "Over the last 6-9 months particularly, requirements have changed as IT Managers have realised that theats and vulnerabilities can come from many sources, not least internally." Mark continued, "Having a
Firewall is only one small piece of an ever evlolving jigsaw puzzle which involves everything including security policy development, designing, securing and testing the system from both an external and internal perspectve."
The publicised attacks that we have all seen on global household organisations including Sony and News International by groups such as LulzSec not only demonstrates that large companies can still be penetrated causing untold brand and financial damage. but that IT security needs to be viewed as a priority area for all companies irrespective of size.
The overall cost to the UK economy from cyber crime is £27bn per year, according to the first joint Government and industry report into the extent and cost of cyber crime across the UKebsites are attacked about 27 times an hour or once every two minutes on average, peaking at 25,000 attacks a minute or seven a second, this ever evolving headache for IT managers is one that needs to be addressed with appropriate knowledge, funding and attention.
"Our customers are concerned in the first instance with whether their network and more recently their website is secure as they are aware of the potential implications of a breach," mentioned Robert Pugsley, CCNA Security, CNS. "They then turn their attention to the increasing number of mobile devices that they are required to look after. Anywhere, anytime access is all well and good but unencrypted, stolen devices can be a huge headache for any IT manager."
