CNS have recently been involved in investigating issues of fake Cyber Essentials certificates and services in circulation. If you have one of these for a tender - you will NOT be considered and may very well be more vulnerable to cyber attack than hoped.

The ICO will not accept fake certificates or services in mitigation following a reportable breach (now a legal requirement).

HOW TO CHECK YOUR CYBER ESSENTIALS CERTIFICATION IS GENUINE

All genuine certificates are registered here, and unless redacted for security purposes in rare cases - are freely searchable.

If the company that "issued" yours does not feature on an AB list; they are not an authorised certification body and may not issue certificates.

  • For CE+ : Did you "pass first time" for CE+? / did a bundled CE+ service cost under £2,000?. If so - be suspicious and CHECK.

Please Ensure:

  • That your internal and external devices were scanned by an auditor who has visited your site at least once.
  • That you were sent "fake malware payloads" via email and web browser to test your defences.
  • That your operating systems were checked for patches..
  • That you were supplied with a full Cyber Essentials / Plus report. If NOT - be suspicious and CHECK.

If you have any concerns about the validity of your certification then please contact our cyber security team on cyber-security@capitalnetworks.co.uk who can advise you
